The last note

Listening to Louis Arsmstrong’s “I Surrender Dear” I stop everything I am doing when he hits “THAT NOTE”. If you play the song… you know the note I speak of. It is the height of the entire song, the longing, the expression, the reaching out… it IS the song… it is brilliant. One cannot listen to the song without likewise playing “that note” within one’s own heart as well. It starts in uncertainty, below the chord’s root, and one strives… that’s right… strives to reach out and up… to achieve that root chord note, that ending, balancing, destination of the song where you can stop and say to yourself “I’ve arrived”.
