She blinded me with science

I attended three nights of Shakespeare recently thanks to a generous gift. It was really a highlight of my year to say the least. I love Shakespeare and will reread the play the day of and then watch it that night. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s rendition of Love’s Labour’s Lost was the best I’ve seen. […]

Patriarchy and Men

I’ve changed my opinion a lot over the last couple of years. I’ve grown to distrust pretty much everything that comes out of gender studies. Most everyone that I come across who exclaims #woke is usually someone trying to push an agenda of some sort. Some of the most oppressive and dogmatic thought I’ve ever come across comes from those who profess to fight such oppression.

I almost beat someone up today

It is a beautiful day today. Especially driving down River Road in Salem. Sunny. 70’s. Top down on the Mustang. Nightwish playing on the radio. Life is pretty good. I decide to stop at a convenience store to get some protein before going to CrossFit in an hour. I’m a bit dehydrated and low on […]

Niflheim

I went on a hike a few weeks ago. It was a bright, crisp day, and the colors of Spring were vibrant. I felt energized just by being outside in the forest. The trails, cutting through the trees, were clear and contrasted with the surrounding rushes and grasses. While I was free to go in […]

Open up to the knife

I got a new tarot deck a couple of weeks ago. It was used. But I liked the whimsy nature of the cards, and so I got them anyway. At home, I put them order, looked at each card’s artwork, and let them sit for a while. Saturday I took a reading. I used a […]

Blinded, but seeing

From the Havamal: Billings mey ek fann beðjum á sólhvíta sofa jarls ynði þótti mér ekki vera nema við þat lík at lifa Translation– I found Billing’s daughter asleep on her bed and I was captivated by her beauty and all the wealths of Jarldom seemed like nothing to me if I had to live without […]
